Poland’s Customs and Tax Service in Łódź has confiscated a large shipment of illegal disposable vapes during an inspection of a property near Zgierz.
Officers discovered 223,688 disposable vapes stored in outbuildings, none of which carried the required excise tax markings. Each device contained 2 ml of e-liquid, bringing the total seized volume to 447,376 ml.
Authorities stated that the scale of the illegal operation represents a potential excise tax loss of more than PLN 10.2 million (approximately USD 2.55 million). Under current regulations, e-cigarette liquid is subject to an excise duty of PLN 1.44 per milliliter.
The 49-year-old owner of the goods has been charged with a fiscal crime under aggravated circumstances. If convicted, the individual faces a substantial fine and a possible prison sentence ranging from three months to 10 years.
